 ラボ国際交流22年間の友情 |

私の周年行事に対して、私が22年前にホームステイしたホストからお祝いのメッセージが届きました。あまりにすてきな文章だったので、紹介したくなりました。ラボっ子も長い年月友情を育んでいるはたくさんいると思います。大切にしたい交流です。
I was excited to hear about the Labo anniversary. I was going to send you pictures of when you were in Colorado and when we were in Japan but I think that you have the same pictures, so I will write a letter about our friendships.
To the Labo Members,
I n 1987 my family was involved in the 4H program and we were invited to host a child from Japan for six weeks. We didn't get a child but were twice blessed by being able to host Yuko Morishita. When we picked up Yuko in Aspen she was thrilled to see my children because she had left her 2 small children at home in Japan. My children (4,7,9,12 years old) were instant friends with Yuko and my husband and my self quickly loved her too.
Yuko lived with us for 3 weeks and shared her culture with us and everyone she met. All the neighborhood children and families got to know her and we made many wonderful memories before she left. In 1988 we hosted a girl, Mihoko, for six weeks and the following year my daughter Angie did a Home Stay in the Kumamoto area. Angie had a great experience and I know that we never would have considered sending her to Japan if we had not had the chance to Host Labo members.
Over the next few years we hosted several other students, including Yuko's son Yuki. Each visit enriched our family and we shared our culture with the students. We enjoyed the program so much that we encouraged other families to host Labo students. It was exciting when new students came each summer.
We have kept in touch with Yuko's family since her visit . In 2007 my son Jeff worked in Japan with the Jet program. While he was living in Japan my youngest daughter Melissa and I decided to visit Jeff. Jeff, Melissa and I traveled from north of Tokyo to Kumomto City to see the Morishita family. We had a wonderful reunion after 20 years. Yuko's family showed us all around the area and we met many friends. The visit to Yuko's home was the highlight of our trip to Japan.
I know that the experience of hosting Labo students in our home and having our child do a home stay in Japan opened our eyes to the wonders of other cultures and the many things that All people in the world have in common. Because we hosted 22 years ago, all of my family members have been interested in other cultures and we have been able to travel to many countries. I wish that more people would be able to experience Home stay programs because I think that if we all understood other cultures and were able to develop friendships, the world would be a safer more peacefull place

２５周年、おめでとうございました。
海を越えた、このメッセージも素敵ですね～。プリントアウトして、じ
っくり読ませていただきました。
本当に、一人一人のラボっ子の成長と、”グループ力”を感じた２５周
年行事でした。貴重な時間をありがとうございました。
人って、”人間”の文字の通り、人と人の”間”で育っていくのだな～
と、妙に感心してしまいました。
「テーマ活動は、二度と同じものは出来ない」と、よく言いますよ
ね！？当然ですね。
メンバーも、時間も、同じ条件は、二度とやってこないし、そのメンバ
ー内で起こる”化学反応”というか、”相互作用”というか、英語で言
うと、”chemistry”かな？は、その場限りのこと。それを、つぶさに、
見守ってきたテューターにしかわからないことを、発表を見ることで、
少しだけ、わかったように思います。
保護者の方々も、きっと、感じていらっしゃったことと思います。とて
も、楽しい時間をありがとうございました。
