 ミシガンから届いたローレンス君のホームステイ 感想文 |

今年の夏、ラボっ子のお宅で受け入れたローレンス君。
とても文章がうまく、行きかえりの道で、すっかり気心もしれて、
つい、帰ったらHPにのせてみたいので、感想文を送ってねと
たのんでおいたら、なんと覚えていて送ってくれました。感激。
So much has happened since I've gotten back from Japan.
The college application process has commenced, school has started, many of my friends from last year have left to their universities, and the cold winds have reached my town.
Already it seems like my time in Japan was ages and ages ago.
Yet, I know that in many ways my experience has helped me so much. It has given me a new perspective from which i view american culture and the people around me. I find now that I am less critical than before, happier to be where I am. It has given me something that sets me appart from other college applicants and a subject for my application essay. It has inspired me to continue to study japanese. I enrolled in Japanese 201 at the local college- today I got the results back for my first test and I had the highest score!
Mostly though, from my experience I have made great memories and learned of the kindness, curiosity, and similarities between me and people all over the world. Those nights when I stayed up watching romance movies with my host mom I will never forget. It still astounds me that we could communicate together with such a minimal understanding of the other's language! It says a lot about the nature of understanding. Indeed, I felt closer to my host mom than I do to people with whom i can easily communicate.
I'm very thankful for all of the people who supported me in Japan and I want to let them know that I wont forget there kindness, ever. I hope to write again soon.

ホストマザーとは英語を使ってのコミュニケーションは、あまりありませんでしたが、英語が話せるか否かというものをこえての、伝えたい気持ち、心と心の交流があったことを書いてくれています。
ラボっこも、アメリカで逆に、こんな体験をたくさんしてきたのでしょう。
ローレンスは１７歳と、こちらからいくラボっこより、少し大人なので、うまく文章にしてくれたと思います。
こうして気づけた彼もすごいし、そんな体験をさせてあげられたホストファミリーもすばらしいです。
