夏に日本語研修で、我が家にホームステイしたノーラからも
近況報告の手紙をもらうことができたので、許可をえてここに掲載します。

Now that I'm back at school, it feels as though I was in Japan a really long time ago, but it's only been a couple months. I'm still communicating with many of the friends I made in Japan. I met lots of people with the same interests as me and I'm really happy that I've met them. I know I'll see them again when I live in Japan someday. Some of my old friends are even communicating with my newer friends from Japan through e-mail.
I'm working on many projects lately. My busiest classes are Canadian and World Politics and Biology. I have homework and notes to study every day. I don't attend cram school either, so I have to use my own time to work. I love the Toronto Reference Library. It is a huge library with about eight floors that is filled with old material. You can't remove the material from the library, but are free to read and copy it. It is very quiet, but pretty crowded. University students are there all the time.
Vocals is my strongest subject, but right now we're learning German songs for a Bach Festival. We have an exchange student from Germany in our class, so maybe he can help me with my pronunciation.
I'm still studying Japanese. Recently we had a supply teacher, and after I showed her some of my work, she gave me a high-five!
Today I went to Toronto's Japan Foundation. A little boy walked by and read out on a poster, "日本語能力試験." It's an international exam with four levels to determine one's Japanese skill. I've never taken it before, and frankly I'm scared to, but someone in my Japanese class completed the first level and said I could definitely do it!
Recently I've had an interest in learning Gaelic. They say it's a dead language, but some of my relatives speak it in Ireland and I love the Irish accent. No universities here offer it, so I would have to take private lessons or learn on my own. I hope I can do it! The spelling can be very strange and different from the pronunciation, but I like it like that. My name, Nola, is variation of the Irish name "Fionnuala（フィヌーラ）," which means "white shoulder." I think Gaelic sounds pretty too.
I started my piano lessons again too. Right now I'm working on level 9. My music books look so intimidating! I have to practise a lot."
