 Two letters from USA |

This summer I got two letters from USA, one aerogram written on a bus in Oregon and one with two envelopes from Kansas.
この夏、アメリカから二通の手紙をもらった。一通はオレゴンのバスの中で書いたエアログラムで、もう一つは、封筒に二重に入れられたカンザス州からの手紙。
The letters on the aerogram were hard to read as you could easily imagine but it was full of writer's message through his tough experience in Oregon Camp.
エアログラムの文字はやはり読みにくい（バスの中で書くので当然！？）が、オレゴンキャンプの過酷な体験に裏打ちされた作者ならではのメッセージがいっぱい！
Another one was quite interesting.
もう一個の手紙は結構おもしろかった。
I opened the envelope to find out another envelope inside.
封筒を開けると、中にもう一枚封筒が・・・。
？？？？？
Both envelopes had a postmarked stamp on them.
どちらにも、消印押した切手が貼ってある。
I needed a few second to figure out what this meant.
いったいどういう事か、理解するまで時間がかかった。
My son said it must have returned to the sender and had been sent again.
息子曰く、「きっと、戻ってきたから出し直したんじゃ？」
Then I remembered that H who was in Kansas had told me she had had no idea how to write address in English.
その時やっと、カンザスに行っているＨちゃんが「英語で手紙の住所書き方わからん」と、言っていたのに思い至った。
I told her she could look it up in her Homestay guidebook but never let her try.
国際交流ノートに載っているからとは伝えたが、実際に書かせてはみなかった。
The envelope inside has my name and address in the middle in bigger print and the senders address at the bottom in fine print.
内側の封筒は真ん中あたりに大きめの文字で私の住所、氏名が書いてあり、下の方に小さい文字で、ホストの住所と送り主の名前が書いてある。
The postman in USA must have thought it should be delivered to the bottom address.
アメリカの郵便屋さんは、きっと、下の方の住所に送るんだと思ったのだろう。
That's why she needed the second envelope.
それで、外側の封筒が必要になったのか。
If you look closely at the outer envelope's address, it was written by her host or host family.
よくよく見ると、外側の封筒の表書きはホストかホストファミリーの手によるもの。
Maybe they think it will explain why the letter took so long to reach me.
多分、こういう送り方をすることで、手紙が遅くなった理由がわかると思ったのかな。
The letter came a few days before she returned to Japan.
手紙は、彼女の帰国寸前に届いた。
This is the first time I've got this kind of letter.
でも、こんな手紙をもらうのは初めて！

はじめまして。
やっぱりラボですものね、英・日の日記がいいですよね。
私もパーティだよりはなるべく英語を使おうと試みているのですが。
いつかトライしてみたいです。

こんにちは。時々、英日で日記を書いています。読んでいただいてあり
がとうございます。英日だと、文章が短く、単純になっているような気
もしますが、ま、いいか・・・と、いう感じです。
これに懲りずに、また、遊びに来てくださいね。
